Introduction to Smoke/Fire Simulation in Blender 2.5 – Day 3

“In this invaluable, in-depth series we’ll be taking a look at smoke and fire simulation techniques within Blender 2.5, and who better to take us through this process than the man behind the official documents himself, Gottfried Hofmann. In the 3rd part of the series we continue to prepare the hi-res setup, and we also look at tips on saving baking time and how to keep the simulation stable. Prepare to be amazed at just what Blender can do for free!”

Tip: Baking Ambient Occlusion
“In this Blender video tutorial, I show you the basics of adding seams to a model, then setting up the Ambient Occlusion and Environment light, then baking them to a texture map, and applying it to the model.”

Using the New Sculpting System in Blender 2.53
“In this Blender 2.53 video tutorial we take a look at the newly refactored sculpting system in the latest beta release. This new system adds many new brushes and features to the sculpting toolset, providing a much smoother and feature-rich workflow.”

Tip: Appending and Linking
“In this quick Blender 2.5 video tip we demonstrate how appending/linking can be used to bring in elements from another .blend file. These elements can be mesh objects, lamps, materials, or even sculpting brushes.”

Tip: Toon Shader
“In this Blender video tutorial, I show you how to set up the “Toon” shader, and use the Edge settings to create a nice 2D cel-shaded look to your 3D models.”

Introduction to Smoke Simulation in Blender 2.5 – Day 2

“In the second part of our invaluable, in-depth series looking at smoke and fire simulation techniques within Blender 2.5, Gottfried Hofmann shows us how to create fire! The incredible (and let’s not forget, completely free) result could be used as a flamethrower, dragon breath, a rocket trail…the possibilities are endless!”

Series: Creating a Stylized Dragon – Part 1
“In this multi-part series, I’ll be covering how to box-model a stylized dragon, making heavy use of the various sculpt tools. The texturing will cover creating tangent normal maps and using the “toon shader” to get a nice cel-shaded look. I’ll also go into some intermediate rigging with some nice animations; from walking to pouncing to flying. and finally we’ll look into setting up a good composition with props and lighting.“In this first part, I talk about the style I’m wanting to achieve, and show you a few examples of what I’m going for. I then go on to begin the model, starting with the default cube and using regular techniques combined with heavy use of the multiple sculpt tools to get the stylized look that we’re going for. “
